Botanical Garden Improvements

The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, will visit the Botanical Garden tomorrow, at 11 am, to commemorate it’s 61st anniversary. Created on the 30th of April 1960, the garden averages about 400,000 visitors per year.

During his visit, Miguel Albuquerque, will inspect the current improvement works, which are scheduled to end this August.  The project aims to improve degraded areas, as well improve the management of the space and the information available. Furthermore, an automatic irrigation system is being installed throughout the gardens, the lakes are being waterproofed, while accessibility to the gardens is being generally improved.

The works are expected to cost in the region of 871,000 euros, of which 85% of the cost will be reimbursed by the European Regional Development Fund.
