Already this week, there have been newspaper reports about the increased number of people now living on the streets of Madeira. Today, photos have been published of a ‘couple’ who have set up home on the promenade of São Vicente.
The situation has not gone unnoticed, and what used to be a leisure space has now been transformed into an area of ‘residential opportunity.’
Although, people understand the need for these people to find somewhere safe to stay, the homeless situation cannot simply be ignored, and with the pandemic creating such inhospitable economic conditions, and where more and more people are turning to drugs and alcohol, the situation is only going to get worse.
