Madeira Placed Under Red Weather Warning

The Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA) has placed the south coast and the mountainous regions of Madeira under a red warning for rain.

As of 9 am the south coast and the mountainous regions were placed under an orange warning, with conditions worsening on the south between midday and 3 pm, and mountainous areas from 11:00 and 17:00

Furthermore, the north coast of the island and Porto Santo is placed under an orange weather warning from 09:00 – 15:00 today due to rain. 

The red IPMA warning indicates to an “extreme meteorological risk situation” and people are asked to “regularly check the evolution of the weather and follow all guidelines issued by the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC).”
