In a tense press conference, the President of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque categorically stated that if people do not start behaving themselves and take the situation seriously, he will have no option but to construct containment fences, and restrict movement from one parish to another.
His comments come after a serious outbreak of Covid-19 in Ribeira Brava. The President, flatly said that the outbreak was not the ‘fault of the government’ and that ‘ he refuses to talk to people as if they are children. If people cannot behave,’ he said, ‘there will be problems, which the government will deal with.’
When asked about tonight’s end of year celebrations, he said he expected people to be sensible.
