Two bars were closed and several others were fined for failing to comply with new maximum capacity and social distancing rules over the weekend. This is the third weekend that teams from the Regional Authority Economic Activity (ARAE), including members of the Rapid Response Brigade (BIR) and Public Security Police Criminal Investigation units, have been operating throughout Madeira.
The authorities carried out a blanket inspection of bars located in some of the most popular and crucial areas of the island, including the municipalities of Câmara de Lobos, Machico and Santa Cruz.
The operation, which lasted several hours, identified several bars and restaurants disregarding new health and safety regulations.
