New Environmental Awareness Campaign

Madeiran Water Company, ARM – Águas e Residuos da Madeira in conjuction with comedians ‘4Litro’, recently presented their new environmental awareness campaign, entitled ‘Pega o Monstro.’ The campaign aims to sensitise the general public about the hazards associated with the reckless abandonment of green waste and monsters (bulky waste such as appliances, furniture and mattresses) and their impact on the islands environment.

The new campaign video was premiered at the auditorium of the Campo da Barca Building and was attended by Susana Prada, Regional Secretary for the Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, who warned that incidents of fly tipping’ have increased significantly over the past couple of years. She went on to say that “Since ARM collects this type of waste free of charge in the participating municipalities, we felt it was time to combat bad environmental habits and as such asked ‘4Litro’, who are very popular with Madeirans, to be part of this new initiative.”

According to the Regional Secretary the objective is simple. If you live in any of the ARM participating waste collection municipalities and need to get rid of environmental waste or monsters, please call the company who will schedule a free home visit.  It’s as simple as that!

Representing the ‘4Litro,’ Duarte Nóbrega, better known as Duarte ‘Nunez,’ commented that through humour the message has greater impact, and for this reason the role of the regional comedy group is to challenge those who still insist on throwing rubbish in the islands streets, watercourses and countryside.
