Since early yesterday morning, large numbers of people have been travelling to the island's mountains to enjoy the snow, however, due to the conditions the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation has closed several roads leading to the island's highest peaks. As such, in addition to the closure of the road that connects Poiso to Pico do Areeiro, access to Paul da Serra, Achada do Teixeira and Fonte do Bispo have been blocked for precautionary reasons.

Snow may have arrived early, but with little Christmas cheer to look forward to this year, NAMINHATERRA TV channel is currently giving everyone a little taste of Christmas by taking live images of the snow in Pico do Areeiro and accompanying them with Christmas melodies.
Pictures released show that snow has already fallen on Pico Ruivo and Pico do Areerio this afternoon.
The Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA) has issued a forecast saying that strong winds will affect the island tomorrow and Thursday. Due to the drop in temperatures, there may be a light dusting of snow on Madeira's peaks.
