Weak Tourism Recovery A Worry

The PS-Madeira Parliamentary Group (Socialist Party) said that it is concerned with the tourist situation in the Region, not only at the present moment, but also in the coming months, as they believe that the recovery announced by the Regional Government is not taking place.

Lighting The Way

Many will have noticed that the lights around Funchal are already undergoing their testing phase.  One of this year's new innovative attractions is a 80 metre video screen, that has been set up on the pier in Funchal.  The screen, shaped in the form of a tunnel, contains more than a million pixels which light up as people pass through.  

Bars Closed For Non-Compliance

Two bars were closed and several others were fined for failing to comply with new maximum capacity and social distancing rules over the weekend.  This is the third weekend that teams from the Regional Authority Economic Activity (ARAE), including members of the Rapid Response Brigade (BIR) and Public Security Police Criminal Investigation units, have been operating throughout Madeira. 

Covid – Increased Drug Addiction and Health Problems

While speaking at the Madeira Days conference, the President of the Regional Parliament, José Manuel Rodrigues, reminded his audience that the effects of the pandemic will have “serious consequences” for the health of the islands population. He added that “mental health and psychological support services have to be reinforced to meet this new reality which sees no sign of improving until the end of 2021.
