Over the last few weeks several cats have been found dead in Canhas, Ponto do Sol, which many local residents believe have been poisoned and have expressed their outrage at the cruelty inflicted on these animals. It would appear that the cat poisoner is fairly indiscriminate particularly as one victim, a cat, had been sterilised by the parish council was found dead. A kitten and a further two cats were found dead by municipal rubbish bins this morning.
A local resident who spoke to local newspaper Diário de Notícias da Madeira, said that he was disgusted by the perpetrator of these acts, saying that not only was yesterday, the 4th of October, World Animal Day but whoever undertook such barbarous acts against animals who cannot defend themselves should be severely punished.
