In order to meet the needs of the island, in terms of fighting forest fires, the Madeiran Army Regiment No. 3 (RG3) has undergone a series of cross training activities under the Operational Plan for Combating Forest Fires (POCIF 2020). The training includes reconnaissance, using surveillance equipment, communications, reporting, and the use of other operational equipment compatible with other Civil Protection agents, namely the SIRESP radios.
As such, RG3 now has two POCIF 2020 surveillance teams, more commonly known as Forest Intervention Teams (EIF), who can be deployed to assist in firefighting operations throughout Madeira.
