Petition Against Ponta do Pargo Casino

ADN Youth is considering launching a public petition opposing plans for a casino in Ponta do Pargo.

Tomás Carvalho, head of the party’s youth wing, said he would use “all the tools” available to try to prevent the project from going ahead.

Carvalho argued that another casino is not a priority for Madeira and warned about the potential social consequences of gambling, particularly its effects on young people’s mental health and the risk of worsening gambling addiction.

He also questioned the Regional Government’s priorities, arguing that Miguel Albuquerque’s administration should concentrate its resources on addressing more urgent problems, particularly within the health service.

The ADN Youth leader challenged Madeira’s other political parties to declare their opposition to the proposal and use the political and legal mechanisms available to prevent it from progressing.

Any casino development in Ponta do Pargo would remain subject to the preparation and approval of a formal project, together with the necessary legal and administrative procedures.
