The DNA – Madeira party strongly regrets the statement made by the president of the Regional Government of Madeira, saying, “A tenant who doesn’t pay rent goes straight to the street.”

While talking to reporters, ADN-Madeira stated that the Regional Government is largely to blame for the many rent defaults in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. They point to existing job insecurity, which they believe will worsen after the approval of the Labour Package, along with steep and unsustainable rent hikes. According to them, the island is no longer the “Pearl of the Atlantic” for Madeirans and Porto Santo residents, as many young people are being forced to emigrate in search of better jobs, housing, and financial stability.

Moreover, the party believes that the President of the Regional Government should “be more measured in his personal opinions when referring to the personal life of each Madeiran and Porto Santonse citizen and have more respect for those who are desperate for affordable housing.”
