Cancer Patients – Denied 100% Sick Benefit

Today, CDS-PP Madeira voiced its “deep disagreement and sadness” over the Assembly of the Republic’s rejection of a proposal that would have ensured full sick pay for cancer patients.

In a press release released this Sunday, the centrists consider this “an incomprehensible decision from a human, social and political point of view,” stressing that it is a question of supporting particularly vulnerable citizens.

The party understands that “there are matters in which political responsibility cannot be replaced by financial theories, technical juggling or bureaucratic justifications,” arguing that, in these cases, “the criterion of humanity, empathy and solidarity” should prevail.

CDS-PP Madeira also says it doesn’t align with the vote cast by the CDS and PSD in the Assembly of the Republic, arguing that this stance goes against the historical and ideological principles of both parties.

Furthermore, the party calls on the CDS and PSD to reconsider the decision and allow cancer patients to benefit from full sick benefit provisions.
