Following the rescue of a 29-year-old German tourist, which took place in the Ribeira da Janela area, in the municipality of Porto Moniz, the Public Security Police (PSP) highlighted the importance of complying with basic safety measures when carrying out pedestrian routes, especially in mountain and hard-to-reach areas.
On its social networks, the Regional Command of PSP Madeira underlines that the operation, which had the collaboration of the Volunteer Firefighters of SĂŁo Vicente and Porto Moniz and the Forest Police, was conducted “with speed, coordination, and skilled professionalism,” adding that the prompt response made it possible to locate the victim safely and provide the necessary assistance on the spot.
According to the police force, situations of this kind reinforce the need for prior planning of walks. “Adopt basic safety measures, such as planning the route in advance, informing third parties about the route, carrying spare batteries, food, water, and waterproof clothing, ensuring that your mobile phone is fully charged, and not walking alone, especially in difficult-to-reach areas.
The woman was found after 21:00 (last night, 9th of February), in Vereda do Galhano, received assistance on the spot, and was referred, as a precaution, to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
