The PSD/M Parliamentary Group was today in the parish of Ponta do Pargo, in the municipality of Calheta, to monitor the progress of the golf project, underlining the importance of this investment for local, municipal, and regional development, while criticising the “misinformation” and “demagogy” that have marked the public debate.
Deputy Carlos Teles highlighted that Calheta is experiencing a positive dynamic, resulting from the combination of public and private investment, arguing that golf is part of a strategy of sustainable development and wealth creation. The parliamentarian also pointed out the inconsistencies of the opposition.
“It is deeply false what the opposition parties say when they accuse the Regional Government of investing in golf and not investing in other areas. Also, the President of the Government announced the distribution and delivery of housing at controlled costs. The Regional Government continues to invest in housing, health, the social sector, accessibility, and many other areas.”
Dismissing claims that the Regional Government favours golf over essential areas, Carlos Teles emphasised that investments in housing, healthcare, the social sector, and accessibility are ongoing. He also pointed out golf’s role in reducing tourist seasonality and creating opportunities for young people.
For the Ponta do Pargo project, the deputy mentioned a public investment of 20 million euros, supported by roughly 140 million in private investment, along with the indirect economic benefits for the municipality.
A current party political banner states that the PSD is devoting 20 million euros to housing and 23 million euros to golf.
