August Temperatures Reached 33.7ºC

On the 10th of August, the Funchal/Observatory station recorded the highest absolute maximum temperature in Madeira, namely 33.7ºC.

According to data released by the Regional Directorate of Economy (DREM), the IPMA recorded the highest average temperatures in Lugar de Baixo (24.6ºC). The lowest was observed in Chão do Areeiro (17.6ºC).

Compared to the climatological normals, in August, seven of the stations with available data represented anomalies, and the largest deviation, of 2.8ºC more than normal, was recorded in Chão do Areeiro.

5.4ºC was the absolute minimum temperature recorded at Pico do Areeiro on the 20th.

It’s worth mentioning that Lugar de Baixo and Funchal/Observatory both recorded 31 days with maximum temperatures exceeding 25ºC. On average, the station in Lugar de Baixo consistently registered 25.5ºC, while Funchal/Observatory recorded 22.2ºC.

Furthermore, the weather stations at the Funchal/Observatório, Funchal/Lido, Lugar de Baixo, and Porto Moniz, recorded 31 tropical nights where the minimum temperature did not drop below 20ºC.
