Despite some respite from the wind this morning at the Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo, with several aircraft managing to take off and land, 11 flights have already been cancelled for today, totaling 39 cancelled flights between yesterday and today.
This morning the Santa Cruz weather station, which serves as a reference for Madeira airport, recorded maximum wind gusts reaching 98 km/h at 09:50. An hour later it dropped to 56.5 km/h but was still above the airport’s operational limits.
Information released this morning from the Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA), wind speed levels in the Autonomous Region of Madeira reached 106 km/h at 07:50 in Chão do Areeiro.
