The Health Service of The Autonomous Region of Madeira (SESARAM) clarified, early Tuesday (14th) evening, that, due to the growing demand within the A & E Department, conducive to this time of year, and the capacity to admit patients into hospital is compromised by the 230 clinically discharged patients who are still in hospital.
At the moment, SESARAM states that the ‘problem discharges’ already occupy 36% of the adult ward capacity at the Dr. Nélio Mendonça and Marmeleiros hospitals.
Therefore, SESARAM has adopted a set of exceptional measures, “to ensure the provision of urgent care of Health Service patients at this time.”
The measures apply to the entire clinical activity within an adult ward and beds are reserved for urgent and/or unavoidable situations, and priority will be given to clinical activity in an outpatient clinic.”
In a statement, SESARAM confirms that:
SESARAM’s commitment to the health and well-being of all users, and all efforts are made to ensure safe and effective treatment. The priority of the Service is to ensure the clinical stability of users and minimise any negative impact, while maintaining a commitment to providing the best care possible to all those who use the facility.
