JPP Vote Against Budget

The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party has just released a statement opposing the 2025 Budget.

“The National Political Commission of the JPP, which represents all its militants, unanimously decided to reject the 2025 Budget proposal. The JPP is against what it considers a path of spending with squandering and distribution of subsidies left and right.

Fearing “bankruptcy,” the JPP denounces what it classifies as”the shamelessness of the usual, the cronyism, the transfers of money from the People to the friends of the party and to feed the monopolies; the millions of euros in political appointments of defendants and clienteles; money from community funds for cooperatives of former secretaries; not a penny of the Budget for low-cost housing. Therefore beware of out-of-control spending and visibly growing debt.”

In addition to accusing Albuquerque of having avoided confrontation with the JPP, Élvio Sousa’s party recognizes that “the scenario without the budget is not ideal, of course, but it is also not the catastrophe and disgrace that Albuquerque is sowing.”

“It is necessary to stop so that we can get the next step right.  And stopping does not mean that social, economic, and cultural life will stagnate.

It is urgent we clean up this situation, and bring new hope. With measures to reduce the cost of living, to lower the price of electricity and gas, supermarket goods, put a ferry for passengers and goods, an insularity subsidy for all public and private workers, more housing for young people and the middle class, and a reinforcement of pensions.

This is our decision; to safeguard our community and protect the public accounts with integrity and honesty.”
