Old Political Advertising Degrades Island Image

The Regional Coordinator of the ADN- National Democratic Alternative Party, Miguel Pita has proposed an urgent revision of Portugal’s electoral propaganda legislation.

He considers it essential that the law establishes the obligation to remove all electoral propaganda within 30 days after any electoral act is held.

Clarifying this, he says:

“The island is a tourist destination of Excellence, known for its natural beauty and unique landscapes.  This type of permanent advertising is inappropriate in a region that depends so much on tourism and the preservation of its careful and appealing image. Aged, dirty, and torn posters not only contribute to the degradation of the urban landscape, but also, devalue the perception of quality and care for public spaces that our visitors have in Madeira.”

In Miguel Pita’s opinion, the revision of the Electoral Propaganda Law is a pressing need, to ensure that, at the end of the electoral period, the Region can once again offer a Political Ad Free image.”
