We Need Campsites

PAN Madeira defends the need to create more campsites in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, underlining the importance of these spaces as sustainable and accessible options for tourism and leisure for the local population.

“In addition to promoting greater proximity to nature, campsites represent an alternative that, when properly equipped, can contribute to the environmental enhancement of our region,” defends the party.

PAN Madeira understands that campsites should be equipped with appropriate conditions to receive not only human campers, but also their pets, which is why the party proposes that all parks have the pet-friendly classification, starting by implementing this alternative in the only Camping Park currently in existence, Ribeira da Janela.

“We were approached by locals who wanted to enjoy this campsite but were unable to do so because the rules refuse the admittance of pets. PAN proposes in this sense that there be a revision of the regulation for the use of this space, guaranteeing the chance to welcome pets.”

The political commissioner of PAN Madeira, Válter Ramos, also criticizes the closure of the Porto Santo Camping Park, a decision that, according to him, contradicts the growing needs of the region to offer infrastructure at affordable prices.

“The closure of the Porto Santo campsite is a decision that reflects the lack of long-term vision of the Regional Government. Instead of investing and modernising this space, they chose to eliminate it, depriving both residents and tourists of an alternative option for outdoor and low-cost leisure facilities.”

PAN Madeira believes that, with the creation of more properly regulated campsites, it will be possible to reduce irregular camping practices by tourists; and allow for a more diversified holiday experience for both residents and tourists.
