The regional coordinator of the Judiciary Police, Madeira, has confirmed that the mega-drug bust operation has been a success and has led to the arrest of eleven citizens, six of whom are from the municipality of Câmara de Lobos. The raids took place in Madeira, Lisbon, and the Azores, with six Madeira suspects being arrested.
Ricardo Tecedeiro said that they carried out “twelve searches here and four in Lisbon. They also seized small quantities of drugs, as well as utensils used in this practice.”
“Over the last year, about 1.5kg of heroin had been seized here in Madeira, at the airport. Meanwhile, in November last year, a considerable amount of MDMA was seized in the Azores. This is the culmination of all the research that we have done over time, involving certain people here with different degrees of participation,” he said.
The Judiciary Police had a total of sixteen search warrants and were working in conjunction with the Portuguese Air Force, as well as the Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP), the Territorial Command of Madeira of the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the National Unit for Drug Trafficking, of Lisbon.
