The Regional Secretariat for Education, Science and Technology, through the Directorate of Artistic Education Services (DSEA), of the Regional Directorate for Education, marks World Voice Day with the concert “Freedom in the Melody of the Voice.” This unique event will take place in the Municipal Garden of Funchal Auditorium on Tuesday, the 16th of April at 4:30 pm.
“This initiative is associated with the commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, one of the most remarkable moments in the history of Portugal,” said the Ministry of Education in a statement, adding that “the objective is not only to remember the significant impact of this period but also to praise its artistic and cultural value.”
For this purpose, a choir, consisting of 120 students from four primary and secondary education establishments in the Region, will be accompanied by the DSEA orchestra. This orchestra, composed of a variety of instruments, including voice, braguinha, wire viola, alto saxophone, drums, and others, will give voice to 11 of the most emblematic songs of the time. The repertoire will include works by Zeca Afonso, Paulo de Carvalho, and other artists who marked the period of the 25th of April.
“In addition to celebrating Portuguese history, this concert also pays tribute to the Art of the Voice on a global scale,” he adds. In this context, he mentions that World Voice Day “is today internationally recognised and now celebrated around the world on the 16th of April through the initiative of Professor Mário Andrea, Emeritus Full Professor of Otorhinolaryngology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon.”
This concert is open to all and promises to be an unforgettable experience, uniting music, history, and celebration.
