The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, has assured that there will be no expansion to the Calheta aquaculture site.
Responding to journalists when confronted with recent controversies about the aquaculture industry in Madeira, whose business is suffering due to bad weather, as damaged cages have to be replaced said, “There will be no further increases to the aquaculture site in Calheta.” However, Rui Barreto, the Secretary for Economy has admitted that the area could be increased.
Further reiterating his thoughts, the President stressed: “At this moment there is no intention in this regard. There is no magnification. I’m the one who decides that. It’s the government. And there is no intention to expand aquaculture.”
