Animal welfare was highlighted today in the itinerant environmental awareness campaign ‘The Future Begins Here!’

The Municipality of Funchal, through the Department of the Environment, including the Environmental Awareness Unit, has launched an environmental awareness campaign in conjunction with the Bolo do Caco Theatre Company.

By using theatre, the campaign aims to reach out to citizens “in a playful, pedagogical and dynamic way through the theatricalisation of a group of visually appealing and humorous characters that boost and raise awareness of good environmental practices: water, animal welfare, climate change, green spaces, and waste”.

Today the scourge of animal abandonment, which always increases with the arrival of the summer holidays was addressed.  Not only was the message ‘Do not abandon your animal,’ the campaign also highlighted the need for sensible adoption and that both cats and dogs, currently housed at the Municipal Kennel are looking for loving forever homes.

They further highlighted the importance of vaccination and microchipping of all companion animals.
