A tourist died while walking between Pico do Areeiro and Pico Ruivo today.
The woman, in her early fifties, was walking as part of a group and complained of feeling unwell. Due to the suddenness and severity of her condition she died on the spot.
Rescue teams were immediately called to the scene and despite the best efforts of the people around her and of the emergency services they were unable to revive her.
