Pigeon Lice Close Hospital Wards

An infestation of pigeon lice, a mite that causes skin irritations, forced the closure of some of the wards at the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital yesterday.

In a press statement, SESARAM said that the problem occurred due to an “absence of an environmental policy to control the city’s pigeon population, a situation compounded by the fact that pigeons have damaged previously installed control nets, which resulted in the closure of some wards.”

In conclusion, SESARAM stated that the situation generated a pest problem, and that the disinfection  process was promptly dealt with by a specialised company.”
