Disability Certificates Can Be Added to Gov.pt App

Holders of a Multipurpose Medical Disability Certificate (AMIM) that has been issued and electronically registered in the central health system can now add it to the gov.pt app’s digital wallet, using the Digital Mobile Key to authenticate.

The Portuguese Association for People with Special Needs – Association Without Limits (APPNE-ASL) announced the measure after submitting a proposal to the Office of the Deputy Minister and State Reform.

According to the association, certificate details are transferred directly from the health system, ensuring the document’s authenticity and protecting personal data. The digital certificate has the same validity as its paper equivalent.

The association stressed that the digital option complements the physical document. Paper certificates remain fully valid and can continue to be presented as before.

However, older certificates issued exclusively on paper are not currently included in the electronic system and cannot yet be added to the app, according to information provided by the minister’s office.

APPNE-ASL welcomed the measure, describing it as an important step towards making essential documentation easier to access for people with disabilities.
