The Regional Government says it has completed €4.2 million of renovation and energy efficiency work across four public housing complexes, covering 171 homes.
Regional Secretary for Equipment and Infrastructure Pedro Rodrigues visited the Pico dos Barcelos housing complex in Santo António, Funchal, on Monday, 28th of September, to mark the completion of the work. According to the government, the project was carried out through IHM – Investimentos Habitacionais da Madeira and funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The four complexes are Pico dos Barcelos, with 72 homes; Queimada in Machico, with 44; Torre III, with five; and Serrado do Mar in Câmara de Lobos, with 50.
The work included repairs to façades and roofs, waterproofing, thermal insulation, replacement of window frames, painting, and improvements to communal areas. The government says the changes will make the homes more comfortable and energy efficient, potentially reducing residents’ energy costs.
“Public housing policy does not end when a home is handed over,” Rodrigues said. “We have to ensure that it maintains its quality, comfort and suitable conditions over time.”
The government’s statement did not provide figures showing how much residents’ energy bills have fallen, or are expected to fall, following the work. Leonel Silva, president of IHM, and Marcelo Gouveia, president of the Santo António Parish Council, accompanied Rodrigues on the visit.
