The Public Security Police (PSP) are investigating an alleged hit-and-run that occurred during the early hours of Saturday morning on Avenida do Infante, in Funchal.
Initial enquiries point to the possibility that the driver deliberately directed the vehicle towards a group of young people before driving off following the incident.
According to information gathered, the vehicle struck a 23-year-old man who was with the group. The young man suffered injuries that were not considered serious.
Witnesses reported, and video evidence suggests that the driver of the dark SUV-type vehicle deliberately mounted the pavement before hitting the group, a circumstance that is now being investigated by the authorities.
The vehicle allegedly involved in the incident has already been identified, and police enquiries are ongoing in order to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The authorities are continuing their investigation.
