Albuquerque Questioned Over Golf

The PTP says it has questioned Miguel Albuquerque’s executive about whether “he plans to introduce golf as a mandatory subject in the Region’s school curriculum.”

“For a Government that aims to build five golf courses with public money, there are reasons to ask whether, from now on, the sport will be mandatory in schools,” says Raquel Coelho.

The labour leader ironically says that “so many golf courses in the Region will only serve for young people from schools to practice the sport, anticipating that this will be the only use given to these white elephants.”

Labour says it does not understand “the Government’s obsession with building golf courses, when the existing ones represent a huge expense for the public purse and never bring the expected economic return.”

The party considers “absurd the diversion of public funds to this sector, at a time when the population is facing a severe housing crisis and astronomical rise in the cost of living.”
