The Chega parliamentary group in the Assembly of the Republic announced that “it will request the national parliament to open an in-depth investigation into the management of vaccines against Covid-19 in Portugal”.
The initiative follows information made public by the newspaper ‘O Sol,’ based on contracts signed between the Directorate-General for Health and seven multinationals in the pharmaceutical industry, which raise doubts about transparency and the risks associated with the vaccines administered to the population.
In a statement, Francisco Gomes said:
“If the State hid relevant information from the Portuguese, we are facing one of the most serious cases of fraud and manipulation of public health in a democracy. This cannot go unanswered.”
According to the Chega Deputy, “the revelations point to the possibility that risks to public health have been concealed, which, if confirmed, configures a situation of extreme gravity and requires rigorous determination of responsibility.”
The parliamentarian insists it’s crucial to shed light on all the circumstances surrounding the signing of the contracts and the information actually provided to citizens during the vaccination process. The Portuguese people deserve to know whether they were given the full truth or if their decisions were influenced by incomplete or manipulated data. This is a serious matter, and the investigation will proceed, no matter who it affects.
Chega says, “It is determined to investigate whether there was fraud and whether the State acted deliberately to condition or influence citizens’ decisions regarding vaccination. Trust in public institutions depends on transparency and political accountability.”
