Madeira Free TradeZone

Gonçalo Maia Camelo questioned the President of the Regional Government on the need to create measures to ensure competitiveness for the region’s companies, namely, tax incentives.

The IL deputy also addressed the situation of the Free Trade Zone, which has “stagnated” due to the Brussels investigations, leading to a decrease in foreign investment. As such, he wants to know how the negotiations on the new Free Trade Zone regime and on the registration of aircraft are progressing.

Responding to this, the President of the Regional Government recalled that it was the “scoundrels of the extreme left and radical sectors of the PS that affected the Free Trade Zone, with lies promoted by the Brussels lobbiests that want to continue feeding the likes of Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Malta, or Cyprus.”

The extension of the current regime until 2033 is guaranteed; the negotiations of the new regime are closed, with only the Government of the Republic remaining to sign.
