Depression Therese Eases From Tomorrow

Depression Therese Depression will continue to influence the weather in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, creating atmospheric instability over the next couple of days, warned the Regional Civil Protection Service, IP-RAM.

In a warning to the population issued this afternoon, the institution warns that “the weather will continue to be affected by depression Therese, centered south of the Autonomous Region of Madeira,” and is moving south/southeast. Although her effects are expected to decrease from tomorrow, Monday the 23rd.

Until Tuesday morning, the whole region can expect mostly cloudy skies with showers, sometimes heavy and possibly accompanied by thunderstorms. Winds from the east will be generally light to moderate but could pick up in higher altitudes.

The Civil Protection warns of potential dangers, including: fallen branches or trees affecting power and communication lines, objects being blown onto roads, slippery surfaces from water pooling, and possible flooding in urban areas, especially in places known to be more vulnerable. The agency also mentions the possibility of drainage system overloading, structure collapses, such as, support walls and slopes, and increased risks for road and pedestrian traffic.

Up until 08:30 today, the Regional Civil Protection Service, IP-RAM, registered 116 occurrences related to adverse weather conditions associated with Depression Therese in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
