A sudden storm, marked by heavy rain and strong gusts of wind, hit several areas of Porto Santo early last night, causing material damage and moments of great apprehension among residents.
Rúben Drumond, the owner of the Girassol bar, shared images from his Tesla that captured the wind’s destructive power, showing furniture being caught in tornado-type winds and cars moving. Other residents took photos of downed trees and shattered windows. In earlier reports, residents left their homes because they were so frightened.
Based on the information gathered so far, Tropical Depression “Therese” had not caused major incidents by late afternoon. However, the most significant impacts were felt during the night. Photos shared on social media reveal the intensity of the weather that took the island by surprise.
