The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) informs that, following the weather warnings issued by the Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA) for the Autonomous Region of Madeira, some classified walking routes will be temporarily closed.
The following trials are closed while the warnings in force: PR 1 Vereda do Areeiro; PR 1.2 Pico Ruivo Footpath; and PR 17 Caminho do Pináculo and Folhadal.
The IFCN also adds that the Forest Road that connects Eira do Serrado to Pico do Areeiro will also be closed during this period.
“It is recommended that all citizens comply with the guidelines issued by the Civil Protection authorities, as well as the adoption of responsible behavior, avoiding risk situations”, he stresses.
After reopening, if anomalous situations are detected on the pedestrian routes, such as falling stones, branches or trees obstructing the path, or any other occurrence, it is requested that they be reported to the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation.
The IPMA has issued a yellow warning for snowfall. The warning will be in force for 24 hours, between 09:00 on March the 18th (Wednesday) and 09:00 on Thursday, March the 20th. Snowfall is only expected on ground above 1,500 meters in altitude. The amount of expected snowfall is expected to be less than 10cm.Â
