The CDS Santa Cruz Council visited the centre of Camacha, as part of their project ‘Giving Voice to the Parishes.’ Led by Lídia Albornoz, this proximity initiative aims to regularly monitor the reality of the parishes on the ground.
During her visit, she talked with small producers, traders, and locals, hearing their concerns and ideas while identifying the parish’s needs. For the Council, this initiative confirmed a truth that can’t be ignored: “Camacha has been left behind by public decision-makers, with no clear strategy to revitalise its centre and bring new life to the parish.”
In a press statement, she said that while speaking with residents and traders, she came to appreciate the vital role they play in the proximity economy, local supply, while preserving Camacha’s heritage. Yet, many are still left without the support, recognition, and appreciation they deserve.
In this sense, “the Council of CDS Santa Cruz defends more support for local producers and a stronger commitment to boosting the Camacha market” and understands that the Municipality of Santa Cruz should rethink the promotion and dynamisation of this space.
