The Regional Government wants to create a mega-yacht marina within the bay of Funchal.
While talking to journalists, José Manuel Rodrigues once again stressed that this is one of the great projects planned for Pontinha. The jetty will be increased by 400 m, which will allow more berthing area and better operability of pier 8. The marina will be developed by the private entity awarded the concession, following a model long valued and expanded by the Executive, according to the Regional Secretary of Economy.
This morning, on the sidelines of the presentation of the results of the Project for the Creation of the Port Community System for the Port of Funchal, José Manuel Rodrigues said that the modernisation of the ports of Madeira and Porto Santo “is essential” for the Region, with the Regional Government setting aside 12 million euros for the requalification of the ports of Caniçal, Porto Santo and Funchal. 2025 was the best cruise year ever with an estimated revenue of 62 million euros.
While discussing the new mega-yacht marina, José Manuel Rodrigues reiterated that there will be almost no public investment in the construction. “This investment will be made by private individuals, and these private individuals will have the concession for a fixed number of years.”
The tender will be launched after location studies have been carried out, as the Regional Government is keen for the project to move forward as quickly as possible.
