The parliamentarians continue to request clarification from the Regional Government, especially from the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment and Culture, Eduardo Jesus.
In response to the deputy of Chega, Miguel Castro, who asked for solutions for the allegorical processions, which are exceeding three hours in duration, the Regional Secretary explained that the calendar of the Flower Festival will allow for the procession to take place over two weekends, something that cannot be applied to the Carnival parade, but which has already begun to see limits to the number of participants in each of the troupes.
Further questioning showed that 256 thousand tourists visited Porto Santo, which is equivalent to the entire population of Madeira. According to Eduardo Jesus, the evolution of tourism is upwardly mobile and with numbers expecting to improve; however, some activities, such as Golf are showing high demand.
Rafael Nunes, from JPP, returned to insist on the issue of revenue from tourist taxes. He showed photos of the degradation verified in some routes and asked the Government for concrete data on the application of the funds collected and solutions to the security issue.
Responding to this, Eduardo Jesus commented that no incidents, including accidents, derive from a lack of maintenance of the routes by the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation.
Cláudia Perestrelo, from the PSD, said that the funds should be used in a regulated manner. She defended that the chambers should also be called to responsibility in the matter of spatial planning and tourism. Referring specifically to the path between Pico Areeiro and Pico Ruivo, she asked when it was likely to reopen.
“We maintain the commitment made to reopen that route in April this year,” assured Eduardo Jesus.
