Government Gives up Gingas Project

The Regional Government has given up the contract for the construction of the Ginjas-Paul da Serra Path, in São Vicente.

The decision was taken at the last Government Council, but was not included in the deliberations made public at the end of the meeting at Quinta Vigia.

The resolution, which was made known today, expressly states that the Government is determined “not to award” and, consequently, revoke the decision to contract “the limited tender procedure by prior qualification CLQP No. 2/DRA-SRA/2022 – Contract for the Construction of the Ginjas Path – Paul da Serra,” made public in March 2022.

The planned investment was more than 11.7 million euros, plus VAT, and had the objective of proceeding with the “paving and improvement of safety conditions in the section between the Ginjas site and Paul da Serra, in an approximate extension of 9.25 km.” However, this solution has always given rise to intense public debate and recourse to the courts.

The resolution made public today alludes to this resistance, stating that “after the decision to contract and during the course of the procedure, several concerns arose, namely precautionary measures, with the consequent suspensions of the public procurement procedure.”

Faced with the obstacles, the Regional Government withdrew its proposals.
