Ronaldo’s Statue Vandalised

Zaino.tcc.filipe’ published a video on social networks, showing him setting fire to the statue of Cristiano Ronaldo, next to the CR7 Museum, on Avenida do Mar.

As far as JM could ascertain, the vandalism took place this morning, Tuesday, the 20th of January.

The protagonist filmed himself pouring a flammable fluid over the statue and then setting fire to it.

Details about the damage to the statue remain unknown, but many are urging the police to review the footage and argue that the incident should be classified as a case of damage to public property.

The video generated strong disapproval on social networks, with several users condemning the behaviour and underlining the disrespect for a public space and a symbol of the city of Funchal.

The authorities must now ascertain the circumstances of what happened, the identity of the perpetrator, and the motivations behind this act.
