The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) confirms that several pedestrian routes in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and Porto Santo are closed.
Among the courses currently closed are:
PR 1.3 – Encumeada Footpath; PR 5 – Funduras Footpath; PR 7 – Levada do Moinho; PR 9 – Levada do Caldeirão Verde; PR 10 – Levada do Furado; PR 16 – Levada da Fajã do Rodrigues; PR 20 – Jardim do Mar Footpath; PR 27 – Planalto Glacier; PR 28 – Rocha Vermelha Levada and PR 3 – Pico do Castelo Levada (Porto Santo)
The IFCN also informs that some routes are partially passable, namely:
PR 1 – Vereda do Areeiro, passable between Pico do Areeiro and Miradouro da Pedra Rija, up to kilometer 1.2; PR 2 – Vereda do Urzal, passable from Lombo do Urzal to kilometer 6.2; PR 4 – Levada do Barreiro; PR 12 – Encumeada Royal Way, passable from Boca da Corrida to kilometre 3.5, and PR 17 – Pináculo and Folhadal Way, passable between Encumeada and Bica da Cana
The Institute warns that pedestrian routes are located in areas subject to strong climatic pressure and natural erosion, calling for all walkers to remain alert and safety aware.
The IFCN also requests that any anomalous situation detected on the routes, such as falling stones, branches, or trees obstructing the paths, or other relevant occurrences, be reported to the IFCN.
