On the sidelines of a visit by the executive of the Regional Government to the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, to present Christmas greetings to the President of Parliament, Miguel Albuquerque was asked about the upcoming Presidential candidate visits to the island. To put it mildly, he is unimpressed.
While talking to reporters, he said:
“When they arrive here, they promise worlds and funds, and then, when we need things, they don’t even know where Madeira is,” said the President of the Regional Government. “Nothing surprises me, even after all these years.”
Miguel Albuquerque also used irony to evaluate the candidates and the debates:
“I have not been watching debates between presidential candidates, but a debate between future prime ministers, because I think they have not yet understood what the Constitution says. They all have an excellent government programme, but the President of the Republic does not govern,” he stressed.
