The Union of Workers in Public and Social Functions of the South and Autonomous Regions will host tomorrow, (9th of December) at 11:00 in the Oudinot Building (side entrance), a press conference and Christmas and labour package initiative. The action takes place under the slogan ‘The Attack is Brutal, the Strike is General’ and aims to alert the Madeiran working class to what it considers to be “a serious attack on the labour law.”
Union leaders state that workers in the Civil Service and the social sector in Madeira have added reasons to join the strike on the 11th of December, due to the high cost of living and low wages.
The union points out that salaries of 1,700 euros per worker are needed to ensure a decent standard of living, noting that most public sector employees earn salaries that fall short of 1,000 euros.
