Orange Weather Warning

The Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA) maintains warnings for Madeira and Porto Santo due to heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and sea agitation in the coming days.  

Rainfall on the north coast of Madeira will be heavy at times, with the possibility of thunderstorms, from tonight (Tuesday the 11th) until tomorrow morning.  Rain will intensify again from Wednesday night until Thursday morning.  Current forecasts show that rain is also expected on Friday. 

Gusts of wind are expected to reach 75 km/h.

On the south coast, the situation is more critical. The orange warning for persistent and sometimes heavy precipitation between 03:00 and 09:00 on Wednesday, the 12th of November, while the yellow warning covers additional periods of heavy rain before and after this timeframe.

Wind gusts are expected to reach 70-75 km/h, and waves in the west can reach 4 to 4.5 meters. 

The island’s mountainous regions will remain under an orange alert for the whole of Wednesday morning as rain is expected to be heavy and gusts of wind can reach 90-95 km/h. 

Porto Santo is also under a yellow weather warning for heavy rain and strong winds.
