The amount raised by friends of Igor Holewiński, the Polish citizen who has been missing in madeira since last Saturday, will pay for the hiring of a private specialized search and rescue team. So far, they have raised €15,000 (63,648 PLN). The fundraiser was launched on an online fundraising platform, and the amount continues to increase minute by minute.
According to the message published by the friends, “on Saturday morning, Igor left Levada dos Tornos towards Pico Ruivo – the highest point on the island. Around 1 pm, we lost contact with him. The location signal in the iPhone’s search app stopped working, and since then, we haven’t been able to communicate with it at all.”
In the same publication, the friends stress that “time is of the essence” and that they intend to “quickly activate a specialist in private searches, with his team, which has already helped to find 35 missing people in Madeira and Portugal”.
The appeal asks for “any possible help, to cover the costs of the rescue mission”, adding that “every donation – however small – will help ensure professional support on the ground as soon as possible.” ad
Meanwhile, the official searches continue, involving a Search and Rescue team from the Public Security Police, with the support of the Regional Civil Protection Service, which has been using drones, as well as the National Republican Guard (GNR), the Forest Police, and the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation.
