A red light seen dancing in the sea off the Porto Santo beach, near Cabeço, aroused a lot of interest among several young people bathing in the area.
Concerned about what may be an emergency, and according to eye-witness reports, people became so concerned that several calls were made to the Maritime Search and Rescue Centre.
So far, the Civil Protection of Madeira has stated that they have not received any distress calls from the area.
The light could be caused by an inferior mirage, where trapped heat could appear as if it were a light.
