This morning, as many passed the Leroy Merlin gardens, in São Martinho, came across a new scene of illegal camping, this time “in a hidden corner” of the garden.
Images sent to JM by a reader illustrate a tent set up in addition to a net supported between two trees, in which an individual was lying. According to the eyewitness, two tourists stayed overnight.
It should be recalled that, just yesterday, JM reported another scene of illegal camping, this time regarding a tent mounted on a vehicle parked at the Pico do Facho Viewpoint, in Machico.
The occurrence of this type of situation in Madeira is becoming more and more regular. The Regional Government is now tightening control on these incidents.
A second incident was reported to JM, with tourists using public spaces as a cheap alternative to hotel accommodation.
According to the eyewitness, a couple spent the night in a parked vehicle, with the windows covered, at the Pico de São Gonçalo Viewpoint, in Funchal.
