USA Stops Ordering EU and Portuguese Wines

The President of the National Association of Traders and Exporters of Wines and Spirits (ANCEVE), Paulo Amorim, said today that “the US has stopped orders for Portuguese wines and wines from Europe.”

“The uncertainty is terrible and with the uncertainty the distribution chain in the United States has stopped orders for Portuguese wines and wines from Europe and, therefore, at the moment we are facing a terrible problem through the non-sale of our products,” said the President of the association.

Paulo Amorim also fears that, if the tariffs are implemented, most of the loss will be borne by wine producers, which he considers a gigantic injustice.

The official spoke to journalists after meeting, together with 16 other sectoral associations, with the Minister of Economy and the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, in Lisbon, within the scope of the tariffs announced by the President of the United States.

The president of ANCEVE also said that Portuguese wine needs “a new Porter plan,” which helps to promote Portuguese wine globally in a more dynamic way.

US President Donald Trump announced last week the suspension of so-called “reciprocal tariffs” for 90 days, which included the European Union.
