Brussels Airlines has returned to Madeira and will now start a weekly scheduled service between Brussels and Funchal. The inaugural operation was carried out using an Airbus A320neo, which can carry 180 passengers.
To mark the occasion, the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony took place, with passengers being welcomed with handmade chocolates made with local fruits, in a tribute to Madeiran culture.
Madeira now joins Lisbon, Porto, and Faro, and is the company’s 71st destination. The carrier is part of the Lufthansa Group.
For Karen Strougo, commercial director of ANA | VINCI Airports, this “operation is a recognition of the potential of the region and the continuous work of the ANA | VINCI Airports in the development of routes, creating new opportunities for passengers and supporting the economic growth of the archipelago.”
Jan Derycke, Director of Network and Planning at Brussels Airlines, also expressed enthusiasm for the reinforcement of the investment in the Portuguese market. “With a significant capacity increase planned for the summer of 2025, Brussels Airlines is focusing heavily on Portugal and Spain, both through network expansion and increased frequencies on existing routes.”
